Guided tours on Tuesdays in July and August – Guided group tours available upon reservation – Guided hikes available at the Office of Tourism – Every 2 years starting in September 2015, a festival called the “les Médiévales” (Medieval Times) will take place featuring: a market and medieval banquets, a parade and a reenactment of the assault on the castle, games for children.
In this fortified castle from the XIII century, the pentagonal outer wall, a vast court of honour, a chimney from the Renaissance, and a 24-metre high, 4-story dungeon remain standing. The summit of the tower is accessible by stairs from April to November and provides a breathtaking view. Panoramic tables are also available for viewing.
Located in the heart of one of the largest forests of the Vosges, Wangenbourg has more than 300 km of trails marked by the Vosgien Club. From the castle, a short walk across the forest brings you to the ruins of the Castle of Freudeneck. By taking the Roman Route, you can also admire the Chapel of the Assumption and the old monastery.
