On August 23, 5 castles and 2 fortified cities will be hosting a festive event! Bring your picnic basket and don’t miss out on tons of activities for the whole family!

Fleckenstein Castle

Tour given by a guide in costume at 11am + a wee wander sing-along « Déambalum sonore » starting at 2pm. This wandering musical invites you to participate and is well worth the detour! Associating live music with recorded music from the time of Leonardo de Vinci, the troubadours from the XXI century meet todays groupe ‘Les Bâtisseurs d’Instants’ and transport us to a setting from the Middle Ages with a burlesque liveliness. It’s sure to awaken the musical talent of any passerby! A picnic is to be held at the foot of the castle. The entrance fee to the castle is 4.50€ for adults and 3€ for youth. No extra fees for the concert, guided tour or other activities. A covered eating area with picnic tables is available for up to 200 people. The sing-along wee wander may be canceled due to inclement weather.

Wangenbourg Castle

A preview showing of the castle, Saturday, August 22, for a gourmet, country lunch « Mets-diévales » offered by the Etoilés d’Alsace. Fee: 39€.
Sunday August 23 – The castle welcomes you and will make several barbecue grills available, as well as a concession stand. Under the direction of the Wangen Knight who will be present in Medieval costume, don’t miss out on the free guided tour and the opportunity to meet our knights.

Lichtenberg Castle

A treasure hunt for the whole family: The Treasure of the Knight Ludwig (for children ages 6 to 12). Help Gaspard the lizard find Knight Ludwig’s treasure and explore the castle by solving riddles and facing challenges! The first 10 participants to make it back to the entrance with the correct response will be rewarded with the comic of the Château de Lichtenberg. Fee: normal entrance fee.

Castles around the Nideck Countryside

Your picnic event will start with a hike organized by the Vosgien Club towards the Nideck, Hohenstein and Ringelstein Castles. A bee-keeper and wine-grower will be present to display their products. All activities are free. May be cancelled due to inclement weather.

Petite Pierre

Come enjoy a picnic at the walled city of la Petite Pierre and take advantage of free admittance as well as a free guided tour (given by Michel Schiler, Project Officer of the PNR Vosges du Nord) to the expositions at the Maison du Parc at the castle at 2pm (only available for those pre-registered). For the picnic, you can pick your favorite spot: at the entrance of the walled city, near the car park in front of the intercommunal Office of Tourism, on the picnic tables beside the children’s playground, on the semi-shaded, raised grassy area of the Redoute (fortification – observation tower), in the poets’ garden, along the path GR 53 about 300m from the intercommunal Office of Tourism, in the garden area, or at the foot of the castle accessible via the stairs starting at the Place du Château/Place Jerry Hans, where there are also picnic tables and a meadow. In the case of inclement weather, space will be made available under the covered courtyard, Place de l’école, at the entrance of the old fortified city. Signage will be in place. Capacity: 50 people.

Obernai

At 10:30am there will be a guided tour of the old city offered by the Office of Tourism. Rendez-vous in front of the Office of Tourism, Place du Beffroi. For lunch, you are invited to bring your picnic basket and share a meal on the prairie around the ruins of St. Jean, Route d’Ottrott. Picnic tables will be made available for those who prefer it. For the others, don’t forget to a blanket so that you may picnic on the grass. There will be live music, as well as a refreshments and wine stand tended by the Corporation of Vignerons from Obernai. Don’t miss out on the pony rides and horse shows during the afternoon. Activities are free. Tents will be available in the case of inclement weather. Maximum capacity: 100 people.

Haut-Koenigsbourg

Come meet up with us at the south walls of the castle for a special picnic at the Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle! Take advantage of a beautiful summer day to follow Marguerite the nanny, Ameline the blacksmith’s sister, Florine the apothecary, or any of the other characters from the Middle Ages that live in the castle…
Discoveries, laughs and adventures are to be had during this fun guided tour, followed by a presentation of local products. In the case of inclement weather, a covered picnic area will be available. Fee: normal entrance fee, free guided tour.
